The search engines will rank a website based on relevancy, traffic to the website, time spent on the website, and the amount of link exchange that you have. This means that the search engines do not want to have spammers upset the traffic on their search engines. You are also risking being banned when you email a link to a person. They tend to hit that spam button and avoid clicking on the email at all for fear that once they click on the email they will download viruses or spyware or be sent to a link without actually wishing to go there.

When you consider creating a website you do have to worry about rank on the search engines for others to find you, but you should not become a spammer that will reduce the quality of information provided on the Internet.
