Deep linking
Deep linking means a link to a web page other than the home page of the website.

Directory
A directory is a website that contains a large pool of links to other websites. The pool is divided into directories like Arts, Home, Regional, Business, etc. Each directory is divided into subdirectories. For example: Arts is divided into Movies, Music, Television, etc. Known directories are Google directories, Yahoo Directories, DMOZ and AllTheWebsites.

Freshness
Freshness is the degree in which the content in your website is being updated. Several search engines value freshness more in determining the website page ranks.

Inbound link
An inbound link is a link from anywhere in the Internet to your website.

Keyword
A keyword is any type of word (Cat, Yard, Brown, Flute, James Bond, Tornado, Balloon, Walking, Compiled, etc.) Words are referred as keywords if they have relevance to search engine optimization or to any other ‘word-related’ tool.

Keyword density
Keyword density means the percentage of a specific keyword appearing in the total sum of words within a given page. Keyword density is the method in which search engines determine what your website is all about.

Meta tags
Meta tags contain material such as description and keywords. This material is not seen on the screen but search engines may use the data to better classify the website. Some claim that the Meta tags are obsolete.

On-Site Promotion
All the operations that are done to promote your website that apply on your website. On-Site promotion includes plcaing appropriate content on your website with the right keyword density.

Outbound link
An outbound link is a link from your website to anywhere else on the Internet.

Page rank
Page rank is a value determining how “fond” the search engine is of your website. Each search engine might have a different page rank regarding your website. Each search engine amasses estimates a number of values regarding your website, including its relation to other websites on the Internet, and calculates its own page rank.

Reciprocal links
Reciprocal links are a pair of links; a link from website (a) to website (b) and a link from website (b) to website (a). Reciprocal links are often based on an agreement between the website owners.

Sand box
When a website is created and its existence is brought to the search engine attention, the website enters an “evaluation period” by the search engine. This evaluation period is referred to as a “sand box”. The time a website spends in the sand box is undetermined and depends entirely on the inner policy of the search engine.

Search engine
Search engine is a website that supplies a service for finding websites in the Internet according to certain keywords given by the user. Common search engines are: Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Search engine optimization (SEO)
Search engine optimization is an operation made to improve the chance that your website will appear in search engine result pages. In other words, search engine optimization is an operation to improve the chance that your website will be found using search engines.

Search engine result page (SERP)
The search engine result page is the list of websites found according to a given collection of keywords.

Spider trap
Spider trap is a collection of websites. Each website in the spider trap links to all other websites in the collection. Spider traps is a well-known method to increase inbound links to the website, a method which is counteracted by many search engines.

Web ring is a collection of X websites. The websites link among themselves to form a ring.
